The meeting again takes the form of a two-day symposium on Monday 9 November and Tuesday 10 November with panels and speakers relevant to the practical matters of conducting high quality research in centres based in or adjacent to the humanities.

Highlights in the program include:

  • a cross-country discussion of research funding for the humanities in Australia and New Zealand with speakers Professor Aidan Byrne, CEO of the Australian Research Council and Professor Richard Bedford, Chairperson Royal Society of New Zealand, administers of the Marsden Fund;
  • an Academic Publishing panel with speakers including Kathy Bail, chief executive officer of UNSW Press and NewSouth; Nathan Hollier, Manager, Monash University Publishing; Sam Elworthy, Director, Auckland university Press; Nicola Legat, Publisher, Massey University Press;
  • a public lecture from Dr Dean Oliver, Director of Research, Canadian Museum;
  • a focus on working with cultural and collecting institutions across complex postcolonial sites.

As usual, we have programmed satellite events. On the Sunday prior to the event we conduct two pre-meetings – one for Centre Directors and Associate Directors (or aspirational directors) and one for Early Career Researchers.

On the Wednesday following the annual meeting we are holding a workshop about material culture and humanities research with representation from key voices in working with objects and collections in humanities research (and teaching).

Registration options are available for the two day meeting or both the two day meeting and workshop.
